Translation and Psychometric Evaluation of the Activity Measure for Post-Acute Care (AM-PAC) '6-Clicks' Measures of Basic Mobility and Inpatient Daily Activity Short Form

Patients spending too much time in the hospital bed, experiencing low mobility levels during a hospitalisation episode in acute care is a well-described hazard. In particular for elderly people over 65, poor mobility is one potential independent but modifiable predictor of poor hospital outcome (Brown et al., 2004). Mobility needs to be assessed and documented in hospitalized patients to make mobility/immobility visible the same way as it is done with the measures of vital signs. Therefore, validated tools evaluating mobility status in hospitals need to be developed to guide care interventions (Wald et al., 2019).

The objective of the study is to translate and culturally adapt the Activity Measure for Post-Acute Care (AM-PAC) '6-clicks' Basic Mobility as well as the AM-PAC Daily Activity Inpatient short form into German and French language for use in Switzerland and to examine the validity and the interrater reliability within the respective health professions as well as between the different professional groups for both the German and the French version.

The relevance of pragmatic assessment and documentation as one important enabler for consistent and progressive promotion of mobility for hospitalized patients is well established (Young et al., 2021). Having tools for shared interprofessional language and to foster a culture of physical activity and mobility in hospital is a prerequisite to facilitate respective quality improvement projects also in Switzerland.
